There are a handful of addresses in Australia where the setting does something to you. Where you arrive and your shoulders drop before you've opened the car door. Wategos Estate is one of them.
Two architect designed residences side by side, elevated above the beach, wrapped in subtropical forest, with views that open across the bay toward Julian Rocks, the Pacific horizon and the Cape Byron Lighthouse standing on the headland above.
Eight bedrooms. Two private homes. One extraordinary address. This is the kind of place families and friends return to year after year and never tell anyone else about.
Kalio Concierge | Complimentary for Every Guest
Every booking through Kalio includes our full concierge service at no additional cost. Private chefs. Wellness practitioners. Airport transfers. Curated local experiences. From the moment you confirm your stay, your dedicated concierge team is available to shape every detail of your time here. Book both homes together and your group shares a single, seamless experience across the entire estate.
The Days
Mornings begin with the ocean. Light fills the bedrooms. Someone makes coffee. Someone else is already halfway down the path to Wategos through the trees. The beach is a few minutes' walk via a private 50 metre pathway that brings you out beside the iconic Raes on Wategos. Swim. Surf. Lie on the sand. Stop at Raes for something cold on the terrace, or keep walking the lighthouse track until the whole coastline opens up beneath you.
Back at the estate the groups split and reform naturally. One family around the pool at Moonrise. A couple reading on the terrace at Starfall. Kids moving between the two houses as if the whole hillside belongs to them. That is the beauty of booking both residences together. Enough space for sixteen people to feel like they have the place to themselves.
Afternoons are long here. The barbecue and outdoor dining face the ocean. Cook something simple. Open something good. Watch the light soften over the bay with absolutely nothing that needs to happen next.
Evenings are quiet. That is the luxury.
Wellness
A dedicated wellness precinct within the grounds, available exclusively to estate guests. Infrared sauna. Odin ice bath. Plunge pools beneath the trees. A yoga deck set among the canopy with mats provided.
The Houses
Each home has its own kitchen with Miele appliances, multiple living areas, private pool and outdoor entertaining. They work beautifully independently, but together they become something rare: a private compound above one of the most celebrated beaches in the world.

Location
Wategos is the beach Byron Bay keeps for itself. No through road. No passing traffic. Just a sheltered, north facing crescent of sand curving beneath the Cape Byron Lighthouse, surrounded by national park on three sides and the Pacific on the fourth. The lighthouse walking track begins 100 metres from the front door. Byron Bay's restaurants, boutiques and cafes are ten minutes by car, yet the feeling here is one of complete seclusion.
Guest Suitability
Wategos Estate accommodates up to sixteen adults across both residences. Ideal for a luxury multi family holiday, milestone celebrations or groups of friends travelling together in Byron Bay. Individual homes can also be booked separately for smaller groups of up to eight.
House Rules
No schoolies, bucks or hens bookings. Strict no party policy. No pets.
