The road narrows. The canopy closes overhead. The noise of Byron Bay falls away and something quieter takes its place. By the time you reach Wategos, the only sounds left are the ocean below and the birds moving through the trees above.

Moonrise sits at the top of it all. Elevated above the beach, wrapped in subtropical forest, with views that open across the bay toward Julian Rocks, the Pacific horizon and the Cape Byron Lighthouse standing on the headland above.

This is not a property you simply stay at. It is a place that changes the way your days feel.

The Days
Mornings begin with the ocean. Light fills the bedroom. You make coffee in a kitchen built for slow starts and stand on the terrace watching the water change colour as the sun climbs.
The path to Wategos takes a few minutes through the trees. Swim. Surf. Lie on the sand until the warmth pulls you back up the hill. Stop at the iconic Raes for something cold on the terrace, or keep walking the lighthouse track until the whole coastline opens up beneath you.

Afternoons belong to the house. The private pool sits hidden from everything, surrounded by canopy. The barbecue and outdoor dining terrace face the ocean. Cook something simple. Open something good. Watch the light soften over the bay with absolutely nothing that needs to happen next.
Evenings are quiet here. That is the luxury.

Wellness
Within the grounds of the wider Wategos Estate, a wellness precinct is available exclusively to Moonrise and Starfall guests. Infrared sauna. Odin ice bath. Plunge pools beneath the trees. A yoga deck set among the canopy with mats provided and the morning light coming through the leaves.

The House
Designed by Harley Graham Architecture and styled by New York based Piper Skillman, Moonrise was built to sit within the hillside rather than on top of it. Every room meets the landscape at its own level. The palette is restrained. Micro cement. Stone. Timber. Linen. Bespoke Australian furniture and original artwork throughout. None of it shouts. All of it belongs.

Bedrooms
Four private bedrooms, each generous and designed for rest. The main bedroom includes a private ensuite finished in the same stone and timber palette as the rest of the house.

For Larger Groups
Moonrise accommodates up to eight adults. For families or groups travelling together, Starfall, our luxury residence next door, can be booked alongside to welcome up to sixteen guests across the full Wategos Estate.
